Today, we went to “Tateishi”, a sacred place for a drinker. First of all, we visited “Maruchu Kamabokoten” which I had always dropped in when I had visited Tateishi. You could find the shop right after you walked on Nakamise road which was right next to Tateishi station.
First, “Cheers” with beer and Japanese sake.
Appetizers. Surf clams and wakame seaweeds with vinegared miso dressing. Good with sake.
Beef tendon stew(¥400). Soft and tended to be melted away.
Oden. Radish and Chikuwabu. Soup stock soaked in them. They were really tasty!!
Tomato oden. Sour taste of tomato harmonized with soup stock. It was interesting that this tomato oden tasted like western cuisine.
Japanese scallops burned with shuto (salt-pickled bonito guts)(¥600). Salty taste of shuto and sweetness of Japanese scallops was best match.
Oden at this shop was Kansai style with clear soup stock which was different from Kanto style. Kanto style oden used more sweet soup stock based on soy sauce.
There were a variety of beers, whiskeys, Japanese sakes, etc.
This shop could both be a starter and an anchor at your Tateishi tour. Why don’t you drop in?
