Today, I visited “Honjinboi Shimbashiten” in Shimbashi. It was located a minute walk from Uchisaiwaicho station and a few minutes walk from Shimbashi station.
I arrived there at 11:28, 2 minutes before its opening, there was a sign saying it’s open. I went down on steps and entered the restaurant. One guest was already there. Right after I sat at the table, guests were coming one after another. The restaurant was 80% full all at once.
Taking a look at a menu, it seemed this restaurant was proud of kawarisoba such as Yuzukiri (soba with Yuzu flavor). I ordered soba combination(two colors soba) of Yuzukiri and seiro large (￥1,500). It was my big mistake to order a large one.
I was astonished to see quantity of soba served in front of me. There were 4 small size zarus (bamboo draining basckets) of Yuzukiri. In addition, 4 zarus of seiro came a little later. Here in this restaurant, it was said you were served 4 zarus in normal one and were served double quantity if you ordered large one.
Under a big pressure, I started with Yuzukiri without any dip. Strong flavor of Yuzu. Then, I had Yuzukiri with some dip. A dip was a little bit more salty than normal one. It would be good to put 1/3 or half of soba into a cup of dip. This refreshing soba was very good in such a hot day. Then, I had seiro and found it was good to swallow.
I could enjoy soba, but could not finish all of them. I gave up to eat when I finished 5 zarus out of 8.
At cashing counter, I said, “I’m sorry I could not finish all of them.”. A person in charge replied, “Don’t worry. It was my fault not to explain how big large one here at our restaurant was.”. Normal one was ￥1,200 and large one was ￥1,500. This large one must be precious for big eater.
